Chrysler & United Way Teaming Up Against Child Hunger

Chrysler and Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne wants to help end child hunger. He’s asking for some help in this endeavor, looking to his employees to join with him.

The Detroit Free Press writes that Marchionne is the campaign chairman of the United Way for Southeastern Michigan. One of the biggest concerns that United Way is dealing with that they informed Marchionne is that of child hunger. The fight against child hunger has brought together United Way with the State of Michigan and national nonprofit, Share Our Strength, to create a program called Michigan No Kid Hungry initiative. What this program will do is bring more children to school and summer meal programs.

The decision to help with charity comes after the much talked about bailout after the companies bankruptcy. Now that the sales have finally turned around and Chrysler is making money again, Marchionne thinks it’s about time that the company starts giving back and one way of doing that is getting involved in the community.

β€œIt’s time for us to help generate a turning point within our community for people in need,” Marchionne said in a letter to his employees. β€œI would like to ask you to direct your incredible resolve toward strengthening the spirit of volunteerism, which is an integral part of the fabric of this community.”
