Author Claims Chrysler Minivan Defined Generation

Americans love their minivans. Families, soccer moms, car pool dads, there is practically a whole sub-culture revolving around the minivan, and according to a new book, the mini-van helped “define the lifestyle of a generation.”

Pulitzer-prize winner Paul Ingrassia’s new book “Engines of Change” highlights fifteen influential vehicles in American history, and amongst the Ford Motel T and the Chevrolet Corvette is the Chrysler minivan. It might seem like a less sexy choice, and auto enthusiasts rarely drool over a minivan. Still, Ingrassia points out that there were 210,000 minivans sold in the first full year of production, and their popularity would “signal a shift in America’s love affair with the automobile from sleek cars to tall and burly trucks.” Ingrassia also argues that the minivan both represented and even encouraged a lifestyle shift from “painting the town” to “painting the nursery.”

We couldn’t agree more with the Chrysler minivan’s inclusion in Ingrassia’s book, and we hope that the success of “Engines of Change” will bring attention to this sometimes under-appreciated vehicle. Chrysler 300 On Ward’s Top 10 Interiors

Wards Auto World magazine has handed out the awards for their “Wards 10 Best Interiors” list for 2012. In order to be part of the competition, the vehicles had to be either completely new or have had a significant upgrade for the 2012 or 2013 models. The editors ended up looking at about 40 different vehicles to find their winners. In the end, Chrysler got handed some good news as the 2012 Chrysler 300 Luxury Series ended up making the top ten list.

Drew Winter, the Editor in Chief of Wards magazine, said of the luxury sedan, “If Bently made an affordable family car, its interior would look like the Chrysler 300 Luxury. It’s smart and modern with a generous helping of over-the-top lavishness.” Saad Chehab, the CEO of Chrysler Brand was quick to comment on the news, “The new 2012 Chrysler 300 Luxury Series is more than just our flagship car; it’s the trophy for the tireless majority, an automobile designed and built to meet the most discerning of expectations.”

The 300 wasn’t the only car in the Chrysler family that was placed on the list, the new 2013 Dodge Dart also made the cut. Wards plans on honoring the winners on May 17th, 2012 at the Wards Auto Interiors Conference in Dearborn, Michigan.

Chrysler 300 on the “10 Best Family Cars of 2012”

Winning awards is nothing new for the Chrysler 300. It’s notorious for both the quality in its design and look. It even just earned a 5 star safety rating, the highest possible from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It’s time to open up the trophy case again, because the 300 just walked home with another one.

Kelley Blue Book has announced its picks for the “10 Best Family Cars of 2012.” The list is populated by vehicles that are family approved in terms of safety, comfort, child-friendliness, and consumer ratings. Transportation costs plays a huge role in getting on the list. It makes sense that the winners, Chrysler 300 included, were the ones with efficient fuel economy and cost, financing, and insurance fees.

Saad Chehab, President and CEO if Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC, said of the award, “At a time when the nation is regaining confidence and that fighting American ‘can-do’ spirit, the new Chrysler 300 series sedans reward these hard working folks with the world-class engineering, craftsmanship, safety and technology features that were once only found on high end sedans costing two or even three times the price.” He continued, ““We’re honored that Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com editors scrutinized our Chrysler 300 flagship sedan and recognized it for its quality and precision engineering that were once limited to the privileged few. This recognition goes to further demonstrate that Chrysler brand is now a top choice for the most demanding consumers.”
