Chrysler Tries New Line of Thinking for Plants

Sometime has passed since the bleaker days of Chrysler. It’s been 3 years since then and Chrysler has managed to dig their way out of the hole and back on top of things. A lot of that success seems to be by providing the public with some great new models that they want.

GMA news has a different thought behind what is the driving force behind the bounce back. Chrysler has been putting a lot of minor changes into their factories. These hundreds of changes in production have given the plants more flexibility and output. The employees even see this as breaking down barriers between the management and the floor workers.

Robert Figlioli, a tradesman at Chrysler’s Jefferson North plant in Detroit, is quoted as saying about the plant, “You wouldn’t believe this plant -four years ago it looked like a dungeon. Now it’s beautiful, clean.”

Much of the look has changed since the time before the bailout, when employees were seeing crisis mode all around them with wages being cut, workers laid off, and hours shortened. That’s not the case anymore as the plants are being cleaned up and given a much more high-tech look in order to boost employee moral and increase productivity. It’s a belief that Chrysler official Scott Tolmie holds to, that making a better working environment will help give motivation to the workers.

“The environment is important -to have a house that is clean with nice colors makes a difference,” he says. “We want that Apple store look -it makes people want to work here.”

Chrysler’s approach to improving the conditions to make the workers enjoy their work certainly seems to be working. It seems to be paying off in the quality of the products that they are giving to the world and I think it’s certainly paying off with the demand increasing across the board for their multiple brands and vehicles.

Forbes Makes Questionable Comment About “Imported From Gotham”

I understand there are slow news days, where writers have to truly struggle to find a story to break, I’ve had plenty of those myself. It’s even worse when it feels like the writer is just grasping at straws, desperate to put his name out there for capitalizing on a current news event. When that news event happens to highlight a tragedy that has nothing to do with the subject, it just feels disingenuous. That’s the way I feel about Forbe’s comment involving the Aurora shootings and Chrysler having an ad campaign with The Dark Knight Rises.

They actually put out an article that speaks about how lucky Chrysler is. Not because of sales, or because of an upcoming hot new car, but because their advertisement ended a day before the tragedy happened. I can’t begin to describe how much this article’s insinuation enrages me. I can’t help but think, is this really a conversation to be having? Chrysler seriously needs to comment about it?

I’m really confused as to what the article is supposed to be about. It just makes this absurd comment about how convenient Chrysler is that they don’t have to deal with this. That’s it, nothing else really, there’s no idea or opinion of how to spin a PR machine. It’s an absolute stretch to me, just to assert the hot news story into something to keep it alive and get hits. A story like this just exists to jump on a bandwagon.

Chrysler has no reason to comment on what happened. They have nothing to be afraid of with being associated with the film. It’s just maddening to see someone print what can be summed up with, “Well, isn’t that nice?” Thanks for high-lighting the tragedy into a news story where it didn’t have a place. Next time the writer needs to fill some space, I would recommend not struggling to include a shooting into their story.

Chrysler Starts New Website for Job-Hunters

As the economic story of the bailed out auto industry continues, Chrysler is one of the ones that has consistently reported a strong comeback. Due to that, they have been able to increase workers at their plants and add new shifts to keep up with the new influx of demand. Chrysler is still looking for more people to join their team and to do that, they have created the only website in the big three of car makers to be accepting applications for jobs.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the new website, www.chryslercarerrs.com, is taking applications for both hourly and salaried workers. They are looking to fill 2,350 manufacturing jobs within the next year in both Detroit and Toledo. This differs from the other companies in that Chrysler isn’t using referrals from employees. The auto maker is hiring only from applications made online.

The new site offers a change from the previous method Chrysler used. The old way of doing things was meant to avoid having too many applications at once, so the openings would only appear for a short time, forcing applicants to keep a constant eye open to spring at a moments notice when a job would appear. Now the applicants simply register with their interest for certain jobs, even if they are not posted on the site. Chrysler will then send them an email when a position that matches their skills and interest has an opening.

For anyone looking to be employed by the auto industry now that they are coming back from the brink, this is certainly something to be excited about. It’s a much easier way of being able to find the job you want without keeping a hawk’s eye on the computer screen and pressing refresh every two minutes.
