Chrysler Celebrates 10th Anniversary of “8 Mile”

Much has been said about the incredible job the marketing team with Chrysler has been doing. “Half-Time in America” was a hit with fans when it aired during the Superbowl. Before that, “Imported from Detroit” featuring Eminem in it was capturing the attention of buyers and critics alike. Chrysler wants to keep that momentum going, and to do so will be releasing a new special edition vehicle in honor of the 10th anniversary of Eminem’s popular movie, 8 Mile.

According to NBC news, Chrysler will be putting out a special edition of the Chrysler 200 sedan. That’s not all, however, as the company has another release planned. To tie-in with the new Broadway show, Motown: The Musical, there will be a Chrysler 300 based around the show. The tie-in campaigns that these vehicles are part of stem from comments Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne made that emphasized the auto-maker’s roots in Detroit. Olivier Francois, Chrysler’s global marketing chief, went even further by saying, “We needed to give Detroit credit for what it really does stand for”

No word yet on to what degree Eminem himself will be involved with the promotion of the sedan. Chrysler is currently getting ready to show off even more of their premium vehicles during the SEMA show, scheduled to happen over the Halloween week. Keep your eyes and ears peeled to the future to see what develops out of that auto-show.

Chrysler 300 Gets New Look for Fashion Week

Fashion is the word of the lips of New Yorkers of late with Fashion Week finally coming back for the year. Everyone is talking about the latest and greatest in clothing design. How does a car maker come into the news during this event? They ask someone popular in the industry to give a helping hand.

Fashion Week may seem like an odd place to display a new Chrysler 300, but it’s completely appropriate when the name of the person who worked on it came out. John Varvatos is best know for his rock and roll inspired men’s wear. His work finds the meeting point of his love of fashion and love of music. Chrysler tapped him to give the Chrysler 300 a unique and classy look to go with the classy sedan.

What exactly did Varvatos do to 300? He gave the sedan a Phantom black tri-coat exterior and metallic finish that is meant to be similar to his own John Varvatos’ cologne bottle. He added a specially designed gauge cluster, including a pearlescent white-faced clock and Charcoal black metallic bezels, that are based on his latest watch collection. Then there’s the leather seating that look like his fitted-jacket collection.

Hiring Varvatos to work on a Chrysler vehicle seemed to make all the sense in the world to the company. A native of Detroit, he’s had cars in his blood for most of his life. “I’ve always been a car enthusiast since I was a young kid growing up in Detroit. I worked a couple of summers in a Chrysler plant assembling brake pads. I loved the grit of muscle cars when I was growing up. I love the roar of engines. I love the lines of those cars. I love the wheels on those cars, so throughout my life I’ve always paid a lot of attention to cars.”

Chrysler Continues to Rack up the Wins

Chrysler has been getting lots of love of late. That’s not just from the public who has been helping the auto-maker enjoy some of the best sales in a long time. There’s also the people handing out awards for the vehicles. In just this past week, Chrysler might be needing to build a whole new trophy shelf to keep track of everything that’s been rolling in.

To start with, Automotive News has given the Chrysler 300 an 83 in the Consumer Reports Large Sedan Ratings. That’s second place and still bests all the domestic competition. Automotive News praised the 2011 redesign of the 300 and even more for the additional V8-powered 300C that gives more power to consumers. All these traits help the 300 “score near the top of its category,” says David Champion, the Sr Director of Consumer Reports Automotive Test Center.

The next big win for the company is that Strategic Vision has put out their Total Quality Index study. On the report, Chrysler Group tied for second place. The company ended up scoring at the top of the charts for the Dodge, Jeep, and FIAT brands. Chrysler ended up with 870 for a score where the industry average is 861. The improvement from the previous years study is 2%, which might seem low, but it’s actually the highest improvement of any auto-maker in the study.

The final major news for Chrysler is that Total Car Score has named two of their vehicles in the Top 10 New Cars for 2013. The big winners were the 2013 Dodge Dart and the Ram 1500. They noted that the new Ram will be a major player in the large truck category from here on out. The Dodge Dart received praise based on their belief that it will help bring in a younger crowd to the dealers and win acclaim with the large amount of personalization options it has.

Definitely a good time for Chrysler as the good news just piles up. They have been doing everything they can to keep the good momentum continue and it really seems to be paying off. Who knows what “best of” they’ll be winning next.
