Chrysler 200 About to Get New Look

exterior_04The Chrysler 200 has been needing some new life of late. It’s been getting overshadowed by the 300 and Town & Country. With all the updates being passed around to other members of the family, it’s time for the 200 to get a new look.

Autoblog is reporting that the Chrysler 200 is getting phased out by next year. Chrysler is giving the 200 a short year in 2014 to make way for the successor. Internal documents show that production of that 2014 model will begin this summer and only run through January.

Sadly, these same documents don’t make any hints as to what to expect next. Autoblog writer Zach Bowman has some early speculation that the changes being made will “bleed into the automaker’s other products.” A rumor points to a possible nine-speed automatic transmission with 38 miles per gallon.

Makes me wonder if the 200 will be getting the same kind of face-lift that the Cherokee just got. If it does, how are the fans going to react? It’ll be interesting, to say the least, at what Chrysler has in store to help people fall in love with the 200 all over again.

Chrysler Celebrates 10th Anniversary of “8 Mile”

Much has been said about the incredible job the marketing team with Chrysler has been doing. “Half-Time in America” was a hit with fans when it aired during the Superbowl. Before that, “Imported from Detroit” featuring Eminem in it was capturing the attention of buyers and critics alike. Chrysler wants to keep that momentum going, and to do so will be releasing a new special edition vehicle in honor of the 10th anniversary of Eminem’s popular movie, 8 Mile.

According to NBC news, Chrysler will be putting out a special edition of the Chrysler 200 sedan. That’s not all, however, as the company has another release planned. To tie-in with the new Broadway show, Motown: The Musical, there will be a Chrysler 300 based around the show. The tie-in campaigns that these vehicles are part of stem from comments Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne made that emphasized the auto-maker’s roots in Detroit. Olivier Francois, Chrysler’s global marketing chief, went even further by saying, “We needed to give Detroit credit for what it really does stand for”

No word yet on to what degree Eminem himself will be involved with the promotion of the sedan. Chrysler is currently getting ready to show off even more of their premium vehicles during the SEMA show, scheduled to happen over the Halloween week. Keep your eyes and ears peeled to the future to see what develops out of that auto-show.

Chrysler Sales Up 3 Percent in July

Now the July is over and done with, it’s that time we looked back and see just how the numbers for the month was. I have run out of ways to repeat myself in wondering how long the streak that Chrysler has been enjoying will last, and I’ve also run out of ways to say not yet.

Chrysler is now posting that they had their 28th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. That is a 13 percent increase for the month of July. To break it down even further, the Chrysler 200 was the top seller with an increase of 43 percent. Town & Country also did very well with a 25 percent year-over-year increase and the 300 got a 41 percent increase of sales.

Some big news for the month comes from the Dodge side of sales. Dodge itself had modest sales gains, but one little nugget comes from that. Long teased, much hyped, the Dodge Dart had 772 sales in the month. It might seem like a low number, but it’s due to a very limited release with the full production nowhere near peak levels yet. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when it is truly unleashed.

Jeep and Ram brand also found themselves showing positive gains. The overall take away from the Chrysler side of sales is that they are still managing to be positive in an otherwise slow and weak economy. The book has yet to be written on when this trend goes away, but for the moment, Chrysler is doing very well for itself.
