Gilmore Car Museum Hosts Vintage Chrysler Car Show

Fans of vintage cars and of Chrysler are bound to have an exciting opportunity for seeing both this Saturday. The Gilmore Car Museum will be having the Walter P. Chrysler Club’s 43rd National Meet and Car Show.

The event is open to the public and is a definite must for car lovers. The show will be showing a wide variety of classic Chrysler vehicles from across the decades. Some examples that will be shown off are the 1941 to 1950 Chrysler Town and Country “woodies.” These vehicles in particular were very popular during the beach music phase of the 60’s. Other classics will be the Imperials that ran from 1955 to 1963, muscles cars of the 60’s and 70’s. A real treat for show goers will a rare look at a 1932 Chrysler Imperial and 1942 DeSoto Customer convertible.

The Walter P. Chrysler Club is named after the founder of the Chrysler Corp. Beginning in 1968, the club has dedicated itself to the preservation, restoration, and display of vintage Chrysler-built cars. The Gilmore Car Museum is one of the best places to go in the nation to see automotive history. Their galleries already include a 1963 Chrysler Turbine car, one of the few places to see such a rare find. The auto show for this Saturday will run $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $8 for students ages 7 to 15, and children 6 and under get in free. For more information on the museum, you can find it online.

Author Claims Chrysler Minivan Defined Generation

Americans love their minivans. Families, soccer moms, car pool dads, there is practically a whole sub-culture revolving around the minivan, and according to a new book, the mini-van helped “define the lifestyle of a generation.”

Pulitzer-prize winner Paul Ingrassia’s new book “Engines of Change” highlights fifteen influential vehicles in American history, and amongst the Ford Motel T and the Chevrolet Corvette is the Chrysler minivan. It might seem like a less sexy choice, and auto enthusiasts rarely drool over a minivan. Still, Ingrassia points out that there were 210,000 minivans sold in the first full year of production, and their popularity would “signal a shift in America’s love affair with the automobile from sleek cars to tall and burly trucks.” Ingrassia also argues that the minivan both represented and even encouraged a lifestyle shift from “painting the town” to “painting the nursery.”

We couldn’t agree more with the Chrysler minivan’s inclusion in Ingrassia’s book, and we hope that the success of “Engines of Change” will bring attention to this sometimes under-appreciated vehicle. Chrysler Hits $473 Million in First Quarter

2012 is still young, and Chrysler is already speeding past the competition with its first quarterly earnings.

Closing out the month of April, Chrysler announced that it had a net revenue of $16.4 billion in the first quarter, coming out to a net income of $473 million. During that time, they sold 523,000 vehicles and shipped 607,000 vehicles worldwide, an increase of 33 percent and 25 percent respectively from the first quarter of 2011. To put it plainly, Chrysler is continuing to shatter records and surpass industry insiders’ expectations.

It seems that Chrysler is on track to meet or surpass its 2012 net income goal of $1.5 billion, all thanks to a stellar line-up and brilliant marketing from the Clint Eastwood “Halftime in America” Superbowl ad to the unveiling of the new 2013 Ram 1500 and 2013 SRT Viper at the New York International Auto Show. If anyone worries that excitement will cool off as the year goes on, keep in mind that there is still plenty of buzz for the 2013 Dodge Dart which will be available later this year, and Chrysler is expecting that the Dodge Dart will perform very well with young car buyers.
