Chrysler Brings New Jobs to Detroit

Detroit has been making its come-back, slowly but surely. Evidence to this is in the happenings in the auto industry, having their best year in a long time. It wasn’t too long ago that the sales that have been happening would’ve been more fantasy than reality. Chrysler in particular has been making sure that as the sales continue to come back to the company, so are the employees. Numerous plants across the nation are seeing new workers and additional shifts to keep up with the new demand being placed on them. From making more of award-winning Jeeps to the production of the hottest new sedan, the 2013 Dodge Dart. Chrysler isn’t done there, they just welcome a new batch of employees into their house.

ABC 12 is reporting that Chrysler has opened up their new Chrysler Group LLC Great Lakes Business Center building and is bringing in the staffing. They leased about 33,000 square feet of space on the top two floors of the 23 story former Dime Building. The signs have already put been into place on the outside of the building and the floors have been completely refurbished to accommodate the new staff. The space will house 70 employees from the Business Center.

“We’re proud to contribute to the continuing transformation of the Motor City,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO of Dodge Brand and Head of US Sales, Chrysler Group. “I am thrilled that one of my teams will be embedded in the city that means so much to our company. Detroit is the home of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, SRT Viper, and a very critical part of Chrysler’s team.”

Chrysler 300 Gets New Look for Fashion Week

Fashion is the word of the lips of New Yorkers of late with Fashion Week finally coming back for the year. Everyone is talking about the latest and greatest in clothing design. How does a car maker come into the news during this event? They ask someone popular in the industry to give a helping hand.

Fashion Week may seem like an odd place to display a new Chrysler 300, but it’s completely appropriate when the name of the person who worked on it came out. John Varvatos is best know for his rock and roll inspired men’s wear. His work finds the meeting point of his love of fashion and love of music. Chrysler tapped him to give the Chrysler 300 a unique and classy look to go with the classy sedan.

What exactly did Varvatos do to 300? He gave the sedan a Phantom black tri-coat exterior and metallic finish that is meant to be similar to his own John Varvatos’ cologne bottle. He added a specially designed gauge cluster, including a pearlescent white-faced clock and Charcoal black metallic bezels, that are based on his latest watch collection. Then there’s the leather seating that look like his fitted-jacket collection.

Hiring Varvatos to work on a Chrysler vehicle seemed to make all the sense in the world to the company. A native of Detroit, he’s had cars in his blood for most of his life. “I’ve always been a car enthusiast since I was a young kid growing up in Detroit. I worked a couple of summers in a Chrysler plant assembling brake pads. I loved the grit of muscle cars when I was growing up. I love the roar of engines. I love the lines of those cars. I love the wheels on those cars, so throughout my life I’ve always paid a lot of attention to cars.”

Chrysler Scores Big in August Sales Numbers

The election is really heating up with the DNC coming to end tonight with President Obama giving a grand speech to excite his base to come out and vote for him come November. It’s right on the heels of Republicans making the case for electing Mitt Romney. Part of that case rests on the President’s handling of the auto bailout years ago. He’s received both praise and criticism for the act, but it’s hard to argue with the end result of the auto industry seeing the best sales they have had in years. In what maybe some great news for President Obama and bad news for Romney, August’s numbers point to the President deserving the praise for his actions on the auto bailout.

A post on Bloomberg is showing that the August auto sales saw light-vehicle deliveries at the fastest rate since the 2009 program “cash for clunkers” was enacted. The sales of the month put the industry on the path of having over 14 million sales for the year, the best year since 2007. That’s a 10 percent gain for the third year in a row, which is also the first streak of this nature since 1973.

Chrysler was at the head of the sales charge. Their sales had a 14 percent increase from the previous month. This is higher than the analyst were predicting. The higher sales are due in part to the Dodge Dart finally making it’s large splash on the nation. The sales of the hot new vehicle almost quadrupled from July’s numbers. That gives Chrysler a winning streak of upwards sales, the 29th month to do so.

Alec Gutierrez, an analyst at Kelley Blue Book, is quoted as saying, “We expect Chrysler to continue to gobble up incremental share in the compact-car segment. Chrysler is still trying to get enough selection of variety out to their dealers to satisfy demand. Their product portfolio has improved.”

Chrysler is charging full steam ahead. The monthly good news of sales still continues. Be ready to hear plenty more of the positive sales as the election heats up, the auto bailout has been at the heart of this debate and this is just more ammunition for the political machine to use.
