2015 Is the Year of the Minivan!

2015 Town and County - ChryslerDealerNY - 01

2015 was a big year for cars.  One of the biggest, as we highlighted earlier, the Dodge SRT Charger Hellcat was the Digital Trends Best Car of the Year.  The Hellcats certainly were the biggest and most talked about vehicles of 2015.  Going by sales, however, tells a different story for 2015.  It seems this was the year of the minivan.

Chrysler and Dodge minivans led the nation in combined minivan sales.  While the year started out smaller for the minivans, the end of the year turned it around.  Over 167,000 Dodge and Chrysler minivans were sold in 2015, giving both companies some of their best months ever for their respective minivans.

In fact, the Chrysler Town and Country had the largest year-over-year sales growth of any other Fiat-Chrysler vehicle in the US.  The increase for the US was 20% in November alone.  It was a really good year for the Town and Country.

Not too shabby for a vehicle that is usually spoken of with a hint of despair under the breath due to the stereotypical nature of the minivan.  The minivan has been around since the early 1980’s and who would’ve thought that it would be 2015 that ended marking one of its biggest years?  The future is bright for the minivan as Chrysler will be looking to make some revisions and introduce a possible new face and a new look going forward.

Chrysler Town and Country Hybrid Minivan Will be a Game-Changer

Game Changing Chrysler Town and Country - ChryslerDealerNY Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge

Chrysler is planning to have their next-generation hybrid minivan to be a gamechanger.  The company has invested more than $-billion into their Windsor Assembly Plant to bring this new minivan to life.

Sergio Marchionne, Fiat-Chrysler’s CEO, talked about the minivan in a conference call.  “The minivan that’s coming out next year is a huge step forward for us not just in terms of renewal of a relatively old architecture, but also in terms of embracing plug-in hybrid technology.”

This response was to reporters asking Marchionne about the recent delays in some future Chrysler vehicles.  He also responded with citing the five-year plan that was released in 2014 is fluid and able to change depending on the needs of the company.

Chrysler’s CEO Al Gardner was the one to claim that the new hybrid Town & Country will be a “game changer.”  Back in April, he talked with Detroit News where he talked about how much a fuel-efficient hybrid minivan would change the market and that Chrysler wanted to be the first to that market.

The new Town & Country is slated to go into production in the first quarter of this upcoming year.

New Chrysler Town & Country Possibly Caught on Spy Photos

Chrysler Town and Country Next Generation Spied

The Chrysler 200 has a new face and the 2015 Chrysler 300 is a the final look before it gets an update, leaving only one vehicle in family left to get something new.  The five-year plan that Chrysler laid out shows that the Town & Country will be getting a revamp in its next release, but they have not released any information or pictures on how it will look. One intrepid photographer may have found the new design roaming the wild.

The photos popped up on Motor Trend and like all the prototypes caught on film, it is heavily camouflaged under black tarps.  That can only hide so much, but one thing that is obvious from the pictures is that the minivan will be getting a new look.

That is if it is indeed the Town & Country.  It is possible that it could be a whole new-vehicle, as Motor Trend theorizes.  It could be an all-new seven-passenger crossover that Chrysler is planning to put out to compete against Chevy and Toyota.

Who knows what it could be.  Is it a glimpse into what the next minivan in the Chrysler line-up will look like or is it an all-new vehicle all together?  No word on when Chrysler is planning on lifting that curtain for a first-look at the new Town & Country but I can’t wait to see what comes out of Chrysler engineers next if I’m using the 200 and the Jeep Cherokee as any example to go by.
