2013.5 Chrysler 200S Special Edition to be Debuted at New York Auto Show

2013.5 Chrysler 200 S Special EditionChrysler is bringing a new 200 with them to the New York Auto Show.

According to Automotives.com, the 2013.5 Chrysler 200S Special Edition will be introduced at the auto event. The new vehicle is the result of a partnership between Chrysler and Carhartt. Currently Carhartt handles the clothing line that Chrysler has featuring the slogan of “Imported from Detroit.”

Saad Chehab, the President and CEO of Chrysler Brand, said in a statement, “The 2013.5 Chrysler 200S Special Edition celebrates a never-say-die attitude and the value of hard work with a car unlike any other in the marketplace. The 200S Special Edition makes the statement that world-class qualify and craftsmanship can be designed and developed in the Motor City, and embraced by consumers everywhere.”

On the outside, the 200S features a gloss black mesh grille that is emphasized by a platinum chrome grille collar. The color of the front bumper is platinum black and the fog lights have a platinum chrome surround.

Inside, it’s clear that Carhartt helped Crhysler with the design. The seating has their triple stitching on black water-resistant fabric. This same style with the triple stitch continues to the steering wheel, armrests, and center console.

Mark Valade, the CEO of Carhartt, spoke about the partnership that lead to the creation of this new Chrysler 200S in a statement, “Our design teams were able to work collaboratively to reflect the heritage of both brands, first with the ‘Imported from Detroit’ line of apparel and now with the Chrysler 200S Special Edition. The vehicle is understated in its levels of sophistication which authentically mirrors our brand.”

The rest of the details will be released when it’s shown off at the New York Auto Show. The 2013.5 Chrysler 200S Special Edition will have a starting MSRP of $28,870.

Chrysler 200 About to Get New Look

exterior_04The Chrysler 200 has been needing some new life of late. It’s been getting overshadowed by the 300 and Town & Country. With all the updates being passed around to other members of the family, it’s time for the 200 to get a new look.

Autoblog is reporting that the Chrysler 200 is getting phased out by next year. Chrysler is giving the 200 a short year in 2014 to make way for the successor. Internal documents show that production of that 2014 model will begin this summer and only run through January.

Sadly, these same documents don’t make any hints as to what to expect next. Autoblog writer Zach Bowman has some early speculation that the changes being made will “bleed into the automaker’s other products.” A rumor points to a possible nine-speed automatic transmission with 38 miles per gallon.

Makes me wonder if the 200 will be getting the same kind of face-lift that the Cherokee just got. If it does, how are the fans going to react? It’ll be interesting, to say the least, at what Chrysler has in store to help people fall in love with the 200 all over again.

Chrysler Hires 200 Workers to Keep Up With Jeep Wrangler Demand

UntitledAided by the popularity of the Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler needs to hire additional workers to fill in shifts at a plant in Ohio.

Over the past few months, sales for the Wrangler and the Wrangler Unlimited have been on the rise.  In order to meet the recent demand for the always popular Jeep vehicles, Chrysler is adding 200 people to the Jeep plant in Toledo Ohio.  The new hires will be beginning their work on April 1st.

130 of the new workers will be offering extra relief to the current work force on the assembly line.  There are two shifts already working hard, each working 10 hours.  Chrysler is not looking to add a third shift, according to autonews.com, due to the paint shop of the plant being at capacity.

Thanks in part to the rebounding economy and car buyers staying loyal to a brand they can trust.  The Wrangler has always been a vehicle that people depend upon.  That can be seen by the amount of Wranglers being produced at the Toledo plant.  It’s more than 200,000 from last year.  U.S. sales rose 16 percent from last year.
