If there is one thing that I’ve been reading a lot of in the news recently concerning Chrysler, it’s the word diesel. Much has been said about the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee having an EcoDiesel engine, which hasn’t been offered since 2009. The new Ram 1500 will be getting diesel as well. I picture an Oprah-like scene at their headquarters, “You get a diesel, you get a diesel; everyone gets a diesel!!”
The next possibility is the Chrysler 300. Ward’s Auto asked Saad Chehab, Chrysler President, if the 300 will be getting a diesel engine. He said that it’s still being considered and may be awhile before any official announcement. What Chrysler is trying to figure out is if it’s even worth the money to make this happen.
“It’s a matter of how much the customer is willing to pay for that premium. That’s the only issue with it.” Chehab said.
What may help the 300 get this new engine is that the 2014 Chrysler 200 is rumored to have a diesel engine with its new redesign.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
