Chrysler Employee Bikes Across US for Charity

Who doesn’t enjoy a good road trip?  I’ve made plenty of them across the state to enjoy a weekend away from the daily grind.  That being said, those trips typically take a couple of hours to accomplish.  I can’t even imagine what it would be like to make that kind of a journey on a bike.

That’s just what a Chrysler employee is doing.  Doug Meenan has joined with 25 other cyclists for the Journey of Hope campaign.  It’s a cross-country biking trip from the Golden Gate Bridge to Capitol Hill to raise money for charity.  The trip stated on June 9th and will the cyclists will reach their destination on August 10th.

While on the way to our nation’s capitol, the cyclists will be making various pit stops.  The stops will see them volunteering their time at local groups and other events that benefits people with disabilities.

The employees at the Belvidere Plant, Illinois have already provided Meenan with support.  “Many co-workers have donated and helped me with my fundraising,” he said.  “The union has been very helpful and has even given us the Union Hall to sleep at and plan on feeding us dinner when we ride into town on July 19th.”

Push America is the fundraiser for Journey of Hope and they help raise awareness for people with disabilities.

Get Ready for an All-New Look to the Chrysler 200

exterior_04Chrysler is doing some spring-cleaning.  Of late, they’ve been really pushing change onto their upcoming vehicles.  Take a look at the 2014 Jeep Cherokee and you’ll see just how invested they are in in keeping their vehicles competitive.  Change is never a bad thing.

That same mindset is bringing change to lesser heard about car in their fleet, the Chrysler 200.  In 2011, the Sebring was given the 200 label and, while gaining a boost in sales, never achieved the popularity the auto-maker felt it deserved.

That means its back to the drawing board to see what needs to be done to make the 200 a name in the midsize sedan segment with the 2015 model.

Automobile reports on concepts of the new 200 being shown to attendees of the annual dealer meeting this last October.  What they saw must’ve been quite impressive because it brought the people to their feet.  They quote David Kelleher, who is the owner of a Chrysler Dealership in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania on what he thought of the new 200.  He said it would be a “complete home run.”

Saad Chehab, President and CEO of Chrysler Brand, set the bar high for what he expects from the 200’s new design.  “…if any of us walk into a room and look at the car, is my jaw going to drop?”

The article continues to note that the 200 is being heavily influenced by the competition, such as the 2013 Ford Fusion, 2011 Hyundai Sonata, and the Kia Optima.

There’s no real word on any definite details on what it’ll look like or what the tech specs are, but there’s a belief that it’ll be a variation of the CUSW platform that is already in use with the Dodge Dart and the upcoming 2014 Jeep Cherokee.  The new 200 may be unveiled this fall and be on the sales floor as early as January of 2014.

Chrysler Rumored to be Working on a New Engine Called Hellcat

2013 Dodge ChallengerChrysler must be really getting into the Fast & Furious mind-set.  Someone looked at the Challenger and asked for more power.

Rumor has gotten into the news today that Chrysler is developer a Hemi V-8 that is capable of 640 horsepower, putting it on the same level as the SRT Viper’s V-10.

The codename attached to this project is pretty cool, the Hellcat.  The expectation is that this be debuted inside the 2015 Dodge Challenger and other vehicles after that.

As of right now, Chrysler is refusing to comment.

If this is indeed true, then it could be one last hurray for such a high-powered gas-guzzling engine.  Federal regulations are increasing fuel economy and will lead to companies needing to focus on more fuel efficient vehicles.  Enjoy it while it lasts.
