The Chrysler 300 Gets a Sparkling One-of-a-Kind Custom

Chrysler-300-Bling China-1

Some people just want to make sure their ride is recognizable on the street or to be able to pick it out instantly in a parking lot.  For one Chrysler 300 the idea of one-of-a-kind just went a very long way.

A Chrysler 300 over in China got itself one hell of a decal.  The specialized 300 is covered front to back in shiny stones made out of plastic to make it look like a sparkling sedan.  Carscoop covered the whole of the custom work to make this 300 really stick out.

“(the 300) comes fitted with huge 21-inch allow wheels, also decorated in the same material, suicide-style rear doors, Lamborghini-style front scissor-doors, and a body kit complete with 150mm wide side sills.”

If you thought the fascinating work ended there, then wait until you see inside.  The interior continue the outside visual aesthetic with white leather on everything, even the floor mats.  Whoever wants this 300 certainly wants to have a different kind of luxury.

As to how long something like this comes together, it takes somewhere around 4 months.  For just the wheels, it took a single person three days to complete.  To see more pics, follow the link to the Carscoop article.

Chrysler Plug-in Hybrid Minivan Could be Gamechanger

2015 Town and County - ChryslerDealerNY - 01

The brand chief of Chrysler remarked on the news of the upcoming Chrysler Town & Country plug-in hybrid minivan as a game changer, and he may be really right on this one.

Al Gardner, Chrysler’s brand chief, was interviewed about what to expect from this new hybrid minivan and he was feeling very proud of it.

“If we can produce something that is incredibly efficient, that you can 30, 40 miles with zero tank of gas – that will get you a combined – let’s call it 75, 80 eMPG – it’s a gamechanging number.”

It is difficult not to agree with him.  If Chrysler is indeed able to hit those numbers he was speaking of, they could be on the verge of giving the market a minivan unlike anything else.  The plug-in hybrid is something that could really give the automaker a boost in the more environment-friendly vehicles it has been lacking in in comparison to the other car manufacturers.  Even more interesting is that it will be in the minivan segment.

“The first to market that can produce family vehicles that are efficient – I think we’d agree we’re a little behind the times – we need to be that and the Chrysler brand is the perfect to do that for FCA.”

Again, agree with that idea.  Most hybrids come in the form of a sedan, something meant for drivers with few passengers.  If Chrysler is able to get that tech onto a family minivan, they could be giving the public something it needs.  The people who need help with saving money are the ones in the larger vans, to be able to cut down on fuel consumption and give that market something like this could be a real boon.  I only hope that Chrysler has a plan of how to achieve this goal and not simply be speaking big.  We’ll see when Chrysler is estimated to deliver, which will be awhile.

Chrysler 200 May Get a Diesel Engine

2015 Chrysler 200 May Get a Diesel Engine - ChryslerDealerNY

The diesel engine came into the market because of the demand from consumers.  They wanted a diesel engine on a Ram truck and when Ram finally delivered, they flocked to it.  It has been a huge win for the company, so it would stand to reason they’d start seeing if a diesel engine was possible elsewhere.  With the 2015 Chrysler 200 being the newest hit for the company, maybe it is time to explore the diesel option for a sedan.

Auto Evolution is reporting that Chrysler has a 2.2-liter diesel engine for the new sedan.  The codename attached to the project is “DeTomaso” a nod to the Italian automaker.

This discovery was uncovered by Allpar.com doing some digging around in the back end of DealerConnect.  It then lead Autonews on a “ghost hunt” as they referred to it.  While the engine was indeed showing up still on DealerConnect, Chrysler was unwilling to confirm they had found a smoking gun.  However, a colleague confirmed that Alfa Romeo was indeed working on a 2.2-liter turbodiesel that would be fit for a 200 should the company be nice and bring it state-side.

It sounds like an engine does exist, one that would work but it begs the question of should the company make a diesel option for the Chrysler 200?  I don’t see a good reason not to.  The diesel engines for the 1500 and Jeeps have been popular.  It seems that drivers really like the idea of having that option.  I don’t know if diesel users would spring for a sedan, but it might not hurt to try it out.
