Chrysler Faces Criticism Over New 2014 Jeep Cherokee Design

2014jeepcherokee-2The biggest news in the auto world of late is the early release of the new look of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Jalopnik provided the initial leak. What many fans saw was unexpected; a vast departure from the norm. A wave of negative criticism followed and many lashed out instantly at what they viewed as a step too far in the wrong direction. It was different and too different for comfort.

Jalopnik covered the breakdown of how Chrysler handled the affair. It appears that they were getting pretty prepared for the lash-back against the new design. On the Chrysler Communications’ Facebook page was a message to not judge a book by its cover. It urged people to remember that what makes a Jeep isn’t on the outside  but what’s inside that matters most. Even though I agree, it’s hard not to see that as some cheesy line straight from a kids film.

The negative feedback was prevalent and got negative. “Ugly” was the word used the most to describe how the audience was feeling. Chrysler went to Twitter to repeat the message, urging all to give the new look a chance.

Even Ralph Gilles, the main-man over at SRT, was on Twitter responding to the critics. He cited the new design as a paradigm shift. A quick look shows how right he is about that.

Jalopnik concludes with a defense of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While not the biggest fans of some aspects, mainly the headlights, they make note of how the vitals are still there in the iconic seven-bar grille. There’s something to be said for something revolutionary different rather than keeping with the safe and predictable. In the least, it’ll get people talking and make people who wouldn’t have otherwise notice.

It’s amazing how much has been said of just a few choice shots of the new exterior. Not one mention of any details beyond that and it’s still caused an avalanche of excitement and vitriol. While Chrysler might not be too happy hearing from the nastiest of critics, it does prove the point of there being no such thing as bad press. It’s the talk of the auto world and the specs haven’t even been revealed yet.

Chrysler Sales Best Since 2007

ID-1001273262012 turned out to be a stellar year for Chrysler. They managed to cap off a strong year with sales going up 21 percent for the year as a whole. That makes it the strongest year they’ve had since 2007.

Chrysler beat out the rest of the US auto industry in terms of increases made. It’s clear from the upward sales trend that consumers were out in force the previous year to replace their old vehicles. December alone was 10 percent higher. The Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ram trucks, and Chrysler 300 were the stars of the success. Chrysler also made not that last month’s sales were the strongest month of the entire year.

There are many reasons for such a turn around in sales. One is that unemployment has been steadily decreasing over the year. Another is that the average age of a car is around 11 years. Thanks to banks making it easier to get a low interest rate on their loan, people have been finding it cheaper to just purchase a new vehicle rather than repair an older one.

Here’s to a 2013 that’s even better. Check out our Chrysler inventory online at Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge. Make sure you also like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for more news and specials.

Chrysler Creates Program to Help Drivers After Hurricane Sandy

Living in New York for the past week hasn’t been easy. The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy is still being felt in neighborhoods that have been without power for well over a week and Governor Cuomo is putting the damage estimates near 33 billion. It’s been a long and rough road and some of the worst photos to come out during and after the storm was watching numerous vehicles washed away in the chaos. Thankfully, automakers like Chrysler have decided to step up and help the rebuilding process along by offering a helping hand to the drivers who need it most.

According to Insideline.com, Chrysler will be starting a new program for residents in FEMA designated disaster areas. Eligible drivers can get a 500 dollar cash allowance coupon to put towards the purchase or a least of the majority of 2012 or 2013 models for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Fiat. The program will be running up until January 2nd.

Along with hurricane aid, Chrysler has a new program for military vets in the Veterans Day Military Appreciation Bonus Cash. This will also offer $500 toward the purchase or leasing of vehicles in the Chrysler family. The program reaches out to inactive military reservists and vets who have been honorably discharged. It will run through November 17th.

Sandy left a wave of destruction in its path, and it’s good to know that there are companies out there helping people out in a time where any assistance is needed. It’s never easy to lose something like a car in extreme weather, but thanks to Chrysler and other automakers, there are options out there to help ease the pain.

Queens was one of the areas hit and has been designated a disaster area by FEMA. Go online to view our Chrysler inventory at Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge. Be sure to also like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter for more monthly deals on Chrysler vehicles.
