Chrysler Invests in Engine Plants

chryslerSTUDY03

Chrysler is planning on investing 1.2 billion dollars in their plants for commercial vans and engines.

According to an article on the Washington Post, Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Chrysler, announced the plan for a rather large investment into their plants in Saltillo, Mexico. The Van Assembly Plant costed Chrysler about 1.1 billion to build and has been making the Ram ProMaster van since July. With this large investment, the plant is expected to reach 1,100 employees by the end of the year.

That’s not the only plant getting more resources to work with. At the Saltillo North Engine Plant, Chrysler will spend 164 million for additional workers on a new production line. This will be used for production of the Chrysler Tigershark four-cylinder engine starting early next year. The engine is currently being used in the Dodge Dart and the Jeep Cherokee.

Chrysler Making First Ever “Small SUV”

Chrysler Logo on Chrysler 300

Chrysler has been making headlines of late thanks to the company filing for an IPO. It’s all boring and complicated speak that is good in a conference room full of people who speak of such things on a daily basis, but to people interested in the cars, it’s a foreign language. Thankfully though, some people are being able to scour through the wording of the IPO filing and discovered some hidden gems buried in the avalanche of lengthy words.

USA Today was one such scavenger that found a little tid-bit in the filing. Chrysler just let it be known that they are working on a first ever small SUV. This new vehicle will be based on the same platform that the Dodge Dart is using. That’s pretty much where the information ends, Chrysler didn’t have anything else to say about the matter.

In the same filing, the rumor that Chrysler is downsizing its redundant platforms seems to be true. In 2010 the auto company had 11 platforms and will be reducing that number to nine before the end of next year.

The filing also shows how well Chrysler has recovered since the infamous bankruptcy. In 2009, when the company was going through reorganization, Chrysler reported that 70% of their dealers were profitable. This year, that number increased to 88%.

The future is bright for Chrysler as it looks to increasing its presence in the North American auto business and world-wide. They are taking the necessary steps to ensure that the Chrysler name could very well be the top dog of automakers in the years to come.

Chrysler Town & Country Celebrates 30th Anniversary

overview_03The minivan is a staple of American roadways all over.  The class have come to represent many things, but chief among them is the chariot of the family.  The styling has come a long way and Chrysler is looking to celebrate just how far the class has come in such a short time.

The first Chrysler Town & Country minivan was made in November of 1983.  That means it’s the 30th anniversary not only for the Town & Country itself, but for the minivan class.  What better way to commemorate the achievement than by moving forward with a special 30th anniversary edition of the Town & Country?

“The Chrysler Group is well-known as the creator of the minivan, and these 30th Anniversary Editions are the perfect way to celebrate their leadership and longevity in the marketplace,” said Ben Winter, vice president of Vehicle Engineering.

The 30th Anniversary Edition of the Town & Country will be based on the Touring-L model.  To make sure people who take a look will recognize it as a special edition Town & Country, there will be unique markings inside and out.  The 30th Anniversary Edition will also come equipped with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission.
