Chrysler Group Debuts Six New Models in Vancouver

2015 Chrysler 200 Front GrilleSix new Chrysler models made their British Columbia debuts at the 2014 Vancouver International AutoShow yesterday, including the new 2015 Chrysler 200.

The full line-up of debuts also included the 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker and Dart Blacktop, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, and the 2014 SRT Viper. The decision to make all of these British Columbia debuts as part of the Vancouver International AutoShow is a sign that Chrysler wants to continue their sales domination from last year. In 2013, Chrysler was the top seller of vehicles in all of British Columbia, and they want to keep the brand and its models in the minds of Vancouver show attendees.

Bob Devlin, Regional Manager of Chrysler Canada Western Business Centre, was grateful to British Columbia and optimistic about the year ahead, stating in a press release from Chrysler, “Our top-three products in the province – Ram 1500, Dodge Grand Caravan and Ram Heavy Duty – helped to propel us to the top of B.C.’s retail sales charts last year. We can’t thank the discerning consumers of British Columbia enough for choosing so many Chrysler Group products. These vehicle debuts in Vancouver today will certainly further expand the appeal of our showrooms to an even wider audience.”

The Vancouver International AutoShow runs from March 25 thru March 30 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. General Admission is $15, and there are discounts for seniors, students, and children.

Sterling Heights Assembly Plant Adds 800 Jobs for 2015 Chrysler 200

SHAP_0720__midLast week, Chrysler Group announced that it would be hiring 1,000 new employees for their Jeep plant in Toledo to keep up with demand on the Jeep Wrangler and Cherokee.

Over the weekend, another new round of hiring was announced at Chrysler Group. This time, the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan will be creating 800 new jobs to keep up with production on the new 2015 Chrysler 200.

For those who have followed SHAP and its recent history, the plant is a model of recovery in the midst of a poor economy. Back in 2010, the plant was scheduled to close, leaving its employees out of work and hurting the nearby community. Leaders in Sterling Heights and employees at SHAP banded together to save the plant, and against the odds, they convinced Chrysler to repurchase the plant in March 2010 and extend production at the plant through 2012. By July 2010, it was announced that SHAP would be open indefinitely and would be adding about 900 new jobs.

Since then, the plant has continued to grow and thrive with the mantra, “I Believe.” At the announcement this weekend, Chrysler Group LLC Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne recognized the employees and the community for their dedication to the plant and to the company, saying, “Your resolve has set an inspiring example for everyone at Chrysler, showing what can happen when you find the strength and courage to fight for something worthwhile. I’m proud to be associated with you, and to be on this exciting journey with you. A journey of continued growth that will secure jobs and make a positive contribution to the communities where we live and work. I, too, am a believer.”

Autorama High School Design Competition

Last week in Detroit, MI, high school senior Alex Fischer was selected as the first-place winner of Chrysler’s 2014 “Autorama High School Design Competition.” The design competition has been revived in recent years and gives high school students in Michigan the opportunity to submit their automotive designs and win prizes.

This year, the first-place senior class winner received an iPad, a three-week summer automotive design course at Detroit’s College for Creative Studies with housing and meals covered, and a $2,500 scholarship to the College for Creative Studies. Other prizes included passes to the Detroit Autorama and iPad Minis.

According to MLive, Alex Fischer has been sketching vehicles since last summer when he took a class through the College for Creative Studies, and he based his design on some of Chrysler’s current models such as the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. His sketch was on display along with the seven other winners at the 2014 Detroit Autorama.
