Chrysler Confirms New Midsize Car in the Works

exterior_14Change is in the air for Chrysler.  Executives with the company confirmed the auto maker is adding a mysterious new midsize car to their line-up before the first quarter of the upcoming year.

This all came to light while executives were showing off the factory at Sterling Heights, Michigan.  Currently, the 200 and Avenger are built in the plant.  The remark came while reporters were on a tour of the new paint shop.

The two vehicles on the chop block that Chrysler is looking to replace are its own 200 and the Dodge Avenger.  Both vehicles are having a tough time against the competition, in particular the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord.

The details as to what to expect on the new car are minimal.  It’s assumed at this point that Fiat will be an influence seeing as how the Italian automaker has already made an impact on the majority of new vehicles coming from Chrysler.  The last update on the current midsize cars were three years ago.  In fact, the design is the oldest in the midsize category.

The plant itself that this will all occur at has something of a miracle history.  It’s been slated to close multiple times, but somehow always manages to keep its head above water.  Now, Chrysler has invested a large sum of money to expand on the paint shop that will allow it to paint any Chrysler or Fiat vehicle, the large trucks and commercial vans included.  On top of that, another $165 million will be invested into a new body shop.

Chrysler Celebrates 39th Month of Year-Over-Year Sales

exterior_04June was a good month for Chrysler. Seven of their vehicles set record sales for the month across all their platforms. It was also the 39th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases. Here are the vehicles that broke the records for June.

Starting with Jeep, it was the Jeep Wrangler up 12 percent from the previous year, the Compass, up 24 percent, and the Patriot up 20%.

Next up is Chrysler’s own vehicle. The 200 led the pack of makes with a 14 percent increase from 2012.

For Ram trucks, the Cargo Van C/V is up 13 percent from last June.

Lastly, Dodge had the Challenger up 27 percent and the Dodge Dart sold 6, 437 vehicles.

That’s not to say that any vehicle not on this list did poorly by any means. The Grand Cherokee, for example, had its best June in over eight years. It was the #2 seller for all of Chrysler and was up 33 percent from June of 2012.

Ram trucks have been enjoying the fact that the large truck segment is one of the fastest growing segments in the whole industry and pickup sales were 24 percent higher than last year.

Overall, there’s a good reason for the people at Chrysler to be celebrating. Their sales streak continues and in this case even looks better than ever. This is what happens when you give the market quality cars.

Chrysler Employee Bikes Across US for Charity

Who doesn’t enjoy a good road trip?  I’ve made plenty of them across the state to enjoy a weekend away from the daily grind.  That being said, those trips typically take a couple of hours to accomplish.  I can’t even imagine what it would be like to make that kind of a journey on a bike.

That’s just what a Chrysler employee is doing.  Doug Meenan has joined with 25 other cyclists for the Journey of Hope campaign.  It’s a cross-country biking trip from the Golden Gate Bridge to Capitol Hill to raise money for charity.  The trip stated on June 9th and will the cyclists will reach their destination on August 10th.

While on the way to our nation’s capitol, the cyclists will be making various pit stops.  The stops will see them volunteering their time at local groups and other events that benefits people with disabilities.

The employees at the Belvidere Plant, Illinois have already provided Meenan with support.  “Many co-workers have donated and helped me with my fundraising,” he said.  “The union has been very helpful and has even given us the Union Hall to sleep at and plan on feeding us dinner when we ride into town on July 19th.”

Push America is the fundraiser for Journey of Hope and they help raise awareness for people with disabilities.
