Chrysler Group’s March Sales Exceed Predictions

Chrysler_Group_LLCEdmunds predicted that Chrysler Group would see an 11.1 percent sales growth in March, but as it turned out, they were wrong. Chrysler Group would exceed their expectations with a 13 percent sales growth, making March the 48th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains.

Overall, Chrysler Group ended up selling 193,915 units compared to the predicted 190,684 units. Broken down, the first quarter sales in 2014 compared to 2013 were up by 11 percent. Nearly all of the brands within Chrysler Group posted significant gains with Jeep’s March sales up a stunning 47 percent, make it Jeep’s best month ever.

In March, six of Chrysler Group’s vehicles also set new sales records including the Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, Fiat 500L, Dodge Journey, Jeep Wrangler, and Ram Cargo Van. The Compass, Patriot, and Fiat 500L, and Journey all had their best monthly sales ever, where the Wrangler and Ram Cargo Van set records for their best March sales.

Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. Sales, was pleased with the March sales numbers, stating, “We are entering the spring selling season on a high note as our Jeep and FIAT brands recorded their best sales months ever and Chrysler Group extended its streak in March to 48-consecutive months of year-over-year sales increases. Our Ram pickup truck posted its best March sales in 10 years.”

Sterling Heights Assembly Plant Adds 800 Jobs for 2015 Chrysler 200

SHAP_0720__midLast week, Chrysler Group announced that it would be hiring 1,000 new employees for their Jeep plant in Toledo to keep up with demand on the Jeep Wrangler and Cherokee.

Over the weekend, another new round of hiring was announced at Chrysler Group. This time, the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan will be creating 800 new jobs to keep up with production on the new 2015 Chrysler 200.

For those who have followed SHAP and its recent history, the plant is a model of recovery in the midst of a poor economy. Back in 2010, the plant was scheduled to close, leaving its employees out of work and hurting the nearby community. Leaders in Sterling Heights and employees at SHAP banded together to save the plant, and against the odds, they convinced Chrysler to repurchase the plant in March 2010 and extend production at the plant through 2012. By July 2010, it was announced that SHAP would be open indefinitely and would be adding about 900 new jobs.

Since then, the plant has continued to grow and thrive with the mantra, “I Believe.” At the announcement this weekend, Chrysler Group LLC Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne recognized the employees and the community for their dedication to the plant and to the company, saying, “Your resolve has set an inspiring example for everyone at Chrysler, showing what can happen when you find the strength and courage to fight for something worthwhile. I’m proud to be associated with you, and to be on this exciting journey with you. A journey of continued growth that will secure jobs and make a positive contribution to the communities where we live and work. I, too, am a believer.”

Chrysler Group Posts Best February in 7 Years

Chrysler_Group_LLC

Despite the freezing cold and late snow, Chrysler Group had its best February in 7 years.

According to Automotive News, Chrysler Group sold 154,866 units in February, an 11 percent sales boost for the company. The Jeep and Ram brands are being credited for the best February sales since 2007, and looking at the numbers, it is hard to argue with that assessment. Jeep sales were up 47 percent and Ram sales were up 26 percent from February 2013, and sales on the Ram 1500 alone were up 30 percent.

Why have the Jeep and Ram brands been so popular? There has been severe winter weather all across the country, especially in regions that never had to worry about this kind of weather before. Drivers need to have cars that can handle snow, ice, and whatever else is thrown at them, and they want to rely on a trusted brand like Jeep or Ram. The success of the Ram 1500 can also be attributed to the recent awards including Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year.
