Small Business Drives Van Sales Up, Chrysler Answering Demand with More Choice

rampro_exterior_07

Vans are going through a sales surge thanks to increased interest from small businesses.

When the recession hit, small businesses were hit the hardest.  They learned quickly that into order to keep the doors open, cuts were needed to be made.  A major one for most was in vehicles.  They had to keep their vans and other larger vehicles going for as long as possible due to the cost of getting a newer one.  This has lead to some being held together both literally and metaphorically with duct tape and rubber-bands.

The economy is coming back and many of these same small businesses are on the rebound.  With cash to finally spend to encourage growth in their companies, many of the owners are using that to simply get a new van.

2012 and 2013 saw a consistent and steady growth in the full-size van market.  According to USA Today, van sales have increased a whopping 40 percent since 2010.

Auto companies have not been ignorant of this growth.  It is one of the primary reasons why automakers like Chrysler have been taking advantage of the heightened demand and are producing new full-sized vans.  For example, the brand new Ram ProMaster is one such way that Chrysler is attempting to bring in additional business.

Chrysler’s “America’s Import” Wins Top Automotive Commercial of 2014 Super Bowl

America's ImportThe Super Bowl has come and gone, and the votes are in. What were the most popular ads of the 2014 Super Bowl, and where did Chrysler’s “America’s Import” rank?

Over the weekend, YouTube announced the winners of the YouTube Ad Blitz contest, and Chrysler’s “America’s Import” featuring Bob Dylan was the top automotive ad, coming in 3rd place overall. The ad was beat out for the overall top spots by Coca-Cola’s “America the Beautiful” in 2nd place and Budweiser’s “Puppy Love” in 1st place. At the time of publication, “America’s Import” has been viewed over 11 million times on YouTube.

Chrysler Group has had the top automotive Super Bowl commercial for four consecutive years. In 2011, they released Chrysler’s “Born of Fire” with Eminem. In 2012, it was Chrysler’s “Halftime in America” featuring Clint Eastwood, and in 2013, Ram’s “Farmer” featuring narration by Paul Harvey. Year after year, Chrysler Group’s commercials are the topic of discussion in every Super Bowl commercial round-up, shared across social media and dissected by automotive and media critics alike.

Olivier Francois, Chief Marketing Officer at Chrysler Group LLC, responded to the news that Chrysler Group had again taken the top automotive spot, stating, “This year’s 2-minute commercial entitled ‘America’s Import’ struck a chord with millions of viewers as it introduced our latest innovation, the all-new Chrysler 200 coming to market this spring.”

Chrysler Invests $52 Million In Michigan Plants

Dodge Dart - 01The news coming out of Michigan has been bleak of late. The looming bankruptcy and the freefall the state has been in for years have been headline news for so long. That’s why it’s such a refreshing moment to see the opposite of that, some good news about a company investing into the Michigan economy.

That company is Chrysler and that investment is $52 million into two of their plants in Michigan. The reason is to meet the increase of demand being placed on their four-cylinder engines.

The engine is the Tigershark, the one currently being used in the Dodge Dart and will probably be used in upcoming Chrysler vehicles.

$40.5 million goes to the factory in Dundee to convert the assembly line to make it capable of producing cranks, heads, and engine blocks for the Tigershark engine.

The rest of the money, the $11.5 remaining of the total sum, is for the Trenton North plant and will increase the plants workforce by 298 jobs. This new influx of workers will make increased production possible.

The Dart has been picking up popularity since it was first unveiled last summer. Chrysler seems to be getting ready for not only more and more Darts to be wanted by the driving public, but also for the engine to see use in many of their upcoming catalouge. One step closer to seeing what they have planned.
