Chrysler Rumored to be Working on a New Engine Called Hellcat

2013 Dodge ChallengerChrysler must be really getting into the Fast & Furious mind-set.  Someone looked at the Challenger and asked for more power.

Rumor has gotten into the news today that Chrysler is developer a Hemi V-8 that is capable of 640 horsepower, putting it on the same level as the SRT Viper’s V-10.

The codename attached to this project is pretty cool, the Hellcat.  The expectation is that this be debuted inside the 2015 Dodge Challenger and other vehicles after that.

As of right now, Chrysler is refusing to comment.

If this is indeed true, then it could be one last hurray for such a high-powered gas-guzzling engine.  Federal regulations are increasing fuel economy and will lead to companies needing to focus on more fuel efficient vehicles.  Enjoy it while it lasts.

Great Gatsby Brings Back the Classics

gatsby carRetro is the “in-thing” this week with the release of the new adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic jazz-age novel, The Great Gatsby.

One of the most notorious and fondly remembered portions of the novels is the vivid descriptions of the title character Gatsby’s car. The car is a “rich cream color bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hat boxes and supper-boxes and tool-boxes, and terraced with a labyrinth of windshields that mirrored a dozen suns.

The car is written about in full detail but is still missing an important feature for car-lovers. Fitzgerald in all his imagery never reveals a specific auto-maker behind Gatsby’s one-of-a-kind ride.

The 1974 film staring Roberto Redford used a 1928 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 Ascot Tourer to bring the infamous car to life. In the new Baz Luhrmann interpretation, it’s a 1929 Duesenberg.

They certainly show how far car design has come; how much tastes have changed over the generations. Take a look at a real classic, the 1933 Chrysler Royal 8 Convertible Coupe and compare it to, say, today’s 300 Sedan.

As The Great Gastby gets released nation-wide today, what are some of the best oldies that come off the top of your head for the jazz age?

Chrysler: We’re Still “Imported from Detroit”

imported-from-detroitNot that long ago, there were rumors going around that Chrysler might be moving away from their popular “Imported from Detroit” ad campaign, but last week, Chrysler’s chief marketing officer Olivier Francois announced that “Imported from Detroit” isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Francois assured Chrysler fans in a statement that, “’Imported from Detroit’ is and will continue to be the tagline for the Chrysler brand.” He recognizes that the tagline appeals to consumers who don’t want to “cross an ocean” to find a quality car with modern style and technology.

“Imported from Detroit” will be used this year for the 2013 Chrysler 300 Motown edition and the 2013 Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Luxury Edition, and Chrysler will continue to offer “Imported from Detroit” merchandise through their website.

You can watch the original “Imported from Detroit” Super Bowl commercial below.

We want to hear from you, our readers. What do you think of Chrysler sticking with their “Imported from Detroit” campaign? Are you glad they are keeping it, or do you want a whole new campaign? Leave a comment below, and tell us what you think.
