Get Ready for an All-New Look to the Chrysler 200

exterior_04Chrysler is doing some spring-cleaning.  Of late, they’ve been really pushing change onto their upcoming vehicles.  Take a look at the 2014 Jeep Cherokee and you’ll see just how invested they are in in keeping their vehicles competitive.  Change is never a bad thing.

That same mindset is bringing change to lesser heard about car in their fleet, the Chrysler 200.  In 2011, the Sebring was given the 200 label and, while gaining a boost in sales, never achieved the popularity the auto-maker felt it deserved.

That means its back to the drawing board to see what needs to be done to make the 200 a name in the midsize sedan segment with the 2015 model.

Automobile reports on concepts of the new 200 being shown to attendees of the annual dealer meeting this last October.  What they saw must’ve been quite impressive because it brought the people to their feet.  They quote David Kelleher, who is the owner of a Chrysler Dealership in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania on what he thought of the new 200.  He said it would be a “complete home run.”

Saad Chehab, President and CEO of Chrysler Brand, set the bar high for what he expects from the 200’s new design.  “…if any of us walk into a room and look at the car, is my jaw going to drop?”

The article continues to note that the 200 is being heavily influenced by the competition, such as the 2013 Ford Fusion, 2011 Hyundai Sonata, and the Kia Optima.

There’s no real word on any definite details on what it’ll look like or what the tech specs are, but there’s a belief that it’ll be a variation of the CUSW platform that is already in use with the Dodge Dart and the upcoming 2014 Jeep Cherokee.  The new 200 may be unveiled this fall and be on the sales floor as early as January of 2014.

Will the Chrysler 300 Get a Diesel Engine?

exterior_112If there is one thing that I’ve been reading a lot of in the news recently concerning Chrysler, it’s the word diesel.  Much has been said about the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee having an EcoDiesel engine, which hasn’t been offered since 2009.  The new Ram 1500 will be getting diesel as well.  I picture an Oprah-like scene at their headquarters, “You get a diesel, you get a diesel; everyone gets a diesel!!”

The next possibility is the Chrysler 300.  Ward’s Auto asked Saad Chehab, Chrysler President, if the 300 will be getting a diesel engine.  He said that it’s still being considered and may be awhile before any official announcement.  What Chrysler is trying to figure out is if it’s even worth the money to make this happen.

“It’s a matter of how much the customer is willing to pay for that premium.  That’s the only issue with it.”  Chehab said.

What may help the 300 get this new engine is that the 2014 Chrysler 200 is rumored to have a diesel engine with its new redesign.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Chrysler 200 About to Get New Look

exterior_04The Chrysler 200 has been needing some new life of late. It’s been getting overshadowed by the 300 and Town & Country. With all the updates being passed around to other members of the family, it’s time for the 200 to get a new look.

Autoblog is reporting that the Chrysler 200 is getting phased out by next year. Chrysler is giving the 200 a short year in 2014 to make way for the successor. Internal documents show that production of that 2014 model will begin this summer and only run through January.

Sadly, these same documents don’t make any hints as to what to expect next. Autoblog writer Zach Bowman has some early speculation that the changes being made will “bleed into the automaker’s other products.” A rumor points to a possible nine-speed automatic transmission with 38 miles per gallon.

Makes me wonder if the 200 will be getting the same kind of face-lift that the Cherokee just got. If it does, how are the fans going to react? It’ll be interesting, to say the least, at what Chrysler has in store to help people fall in love with the 200 all over again.
